Kathmandu University emerged as the champion of the 5th BIAC International Inter-University Arbitration Contest, organized by the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC). The London College of Legal Studies (South), Bangladesh, finished as runner-up in this prestigious event. The competition featured participation from eight prominent universities across Asia, and aimed to provide law students with hands-on experience in international arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Structured to mirror real-life arbitration proceedings, the contest allowed students to assume the roles of Claimant and Respondent in a simulated commercial dispute. The final round was presided over by an esteemed Arbitration Tribunal.

The Chairman of the Arbitration Tribunal was Mr. A.F.M. Abdur Rahman J., Former Justice, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Senior Advocate, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Barrister-at-Law and Head of Chambers at Rahman Law Associates & Company. He was joined by Mr. Mohammed Forrukh Rahman, Advocate, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Barrister-at-Law; Head of Chambers at Rahmanโ€™s Chambers. Mr. Rahman is Panel Arbitrator of SCMA, SCIA, SARCO and, is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR, Paris, and is affiliated with several international arbitral institutions, and Mr. Md. Abul Hossain Khan, former Senior District and Sessions Judge; Advocate, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Head of Chambers, United Law Chamber.

In his concluding remarks, BIAC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. K A M Majedur Rahman emphasized the significance of practical legal education in shaping future legal professionals. โ€œSuch platforms are essential for developing the skills and insights required in modern legal practice, particularly in arbitration and ADR, which are increasingly being adopted to resolve commercial disputes efficiently,โ€ he stated.

The event was moderated by Mr. Mohammad Anisul Haque Emran, Senior Counsel and Ms. Sanjida Sohana, Assistant Counsel at BIAC, with technical and logistical coordination led by Mr. Amit Das, Administrative & IT Officer.
