
Vice Chairman
Mr. Muhammad A. (Rumee) Ali is the Vice Chairman of Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC). He is the Chairman of the ICC Bangladesh Banking Commission, Friendship Bangladesh, Member of the Board of Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd, SMC (Social Marketing Company) Ltd and a member of the Board of Trustees of International Centre for Study of Bengal Art.
He started his career with ANZ Grindlays Bank (Bangladesh) in 1975. In 1997, he was the first Bangladeshi to be appointed as the CEO of the Bank’s Bangladesh operations. After acquisition of this bank by Standard Chartered Group in 2000, he was appointed to be the first CEO of the combined operations of these two banks as Standard Chartered Bank. In 2022, he joined Bangladesh Bank as Deputy Governor. Also he served as Managing Director, Enterprises & Investments at BRAC. During this period he was Chairman of BRAC Bank Ltd. and founding Chairman of bKash Limited and also he was the Chairman of the Board of AB Bank Ltd..
He was made a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh in 2001.

Mr. Ajmalul Hossain KC

Ajmalul Hossain KC is an experienced advocate in multiple jurisdictions, appearing before the High Court and Court of Appeal in London, the High Court and Appellate Divisions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and in domestic and international arbitrations and mediations. As well as practising from Selborne Chambers in London, Ajmalul is also Senior Partner at A Hossain & Associates practising in Bangladesh and Singapore and A Hossain sarl in Geneva. He acts as arbitrator and mediator in cross border and domestic disputes and sits on disciplinary panels and tribunals with specialist knowledge of litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution; multiparty actions; cross border disputes; debt and security recovery; commercial frauds; regulatory and fiduciary obligations; commercial documents and financial contracts.
He has acted as sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in several domestic and international institutional, trade and ad-hoc arbitrations. References include ICC arbitrations on contractual disputes concerning several multi-million dollar power projects and multimillion dollar contract for the supply of aircraft and as sole arbitrator appointed by LCIA on multi-million dollar claim on a guarantee as well as co-arbitrator in SIAC dispute relating to energy generation and waste disposal.
He has experience of acting as Counsel in arbitrations and mediations under institutional rules including ICSID, ICC, LCIA, SIAC, GAFTA, FOSFA, LMAA, RSA, PORAM and ad hoc arbitrations involving high value and multi-party cross border disputes involving governments, governmental, multinational and domestic entities.
Counsel for and against banks, financial institutions, corporations and others in many complex and high value litigation, arbitrations and mediations. Cases included claims arising out of transnational banking, trading, supply and financial contracts. He has also acted as senior counsel in ICSID arbitrations for and against Bangladesh in a bi-lateral investment treaty dispute and for multinational gas exploration company in a dispute concerning gas field blowout. Also Senior Counsel for corporate clients in several institutional and ad hoc arbitrations in the financial, energy and telecommunications sector.
As well as having expertise in the laws of England, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, the European Union and Singapore, he has also been involved in the drafting of several laws and regulations and proposed amendments to the Arbitration Act 2001 in Bangladesh, provided expert opinions on the laws of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, England and the European Union and has appeared in the courts in England, North America, Europe and Asia as expert witness.
His clients include solicitors, foreign lawyers and other professionals, several multinational and local banks, development and other financial institutions and companies. He has friendly firm relations with various law firms globally.
He is a Bencher of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in London and a former member of the Ethics Committee of the Federation International de l’Automobile in Paris. He also served as a member of the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct Commissioner for 9 years.

Mr. Justice Tariq ul Hakim

Mr. Justice Tariq ul Hakim is a distinguished former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, known for his extensive contributions to the country’s judiciary. He is the son of the late Mr. Justice Maksum-ul-Hakim, who was a jurist, diplomat, and justice of the Dhaka High Court in Bangladesh. His maternal grandfather was Mr. Justice Amin Ahmed, a former Chief Justice of East Pakistan. Mr. Justice Tariq ul Hakim completed his legal education and postgraduate law degree in the UK and was called to the Bar of England and Wales from Gray’s Inn. With a distinguished career marked by important rulings, he has played a key role in shaping the legal framework in Bangladesh.
Currently, he is serving as a panel Arbitrator at the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC), where he applies his vast legal expertise to resolve complex commercial disputes through arbitration. His role as an arbitrator allows him to contribute to the promotion of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, ensuring fair and impartial decisions in cases involving international and domestic business matters.
