Name: Justice Abdus Salam Mamun
Justice Abdus Salam Mamun, is a former Justice of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and one of the Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He is the Founder & Head of the Chamber of Justice Abdus Salam Mamun& Associates, a leading law firm of the country, operating from Dhaka and Chattogram.
Mr. Justice Mamun, who is practicing in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, started his highly decorated legal career as an Advocate in 1981, having wealth of experience of 40 years from both the bar and the bench. He is known as one of the leading litigation lawyers of the country. He was one of the most prominent and successful civil & criminal trial lawyers of Chittagong Division, who later on acted as a Divisional Special Public Prosecutor and Special Public Prosecutor for Anti-smuggling Tribunal for Chattogramin the years 1991 and 1992, respectively and a teacher in the Chattogram Law College since 1984.
In 1993, Justice Mamun was appointed as the Assi tant Attorney General for Bangladesh. As the Assistant Attorney General, during his tenure, Justice Mamun represented the Government in many critical judicial matters, which were reported in number of official publications. Afterwards, since 1996 he has practiced extensively in various fields.In 2002, he was elevated to the Bench as an Honorable Justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. As a High Court Judge, Justice Mamun pronounced and formulated multiple groundbreaking judgments having profound impact on legal field and practice.
Since he resumed his Private Practice in 2006, he has been acting on behalf of many corporations and private clients for complex legal issues in Civil, Criminal, Tax, VAT,Company & Commercial Jurisdiction. He has numerous reported high-profile cases to his credit where he represented as a private practitioner.
Moreover, Mr. Justice Mamun is known as an efficient and an expert arbitrator, having experience of acting as the arbitrator as well as arbitration counsel in number of arbitration proceedings including international arbitrations. He has a keen interest in the development and unfolding of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in Bangladesh.
Mr. Justice Mamun is an acclaimed writer, researcher and history aficionado, with particular interest in the legal history of the subcontinent. He is the published author of
4 scholarly research books entitled ‘Mughal Samrat Bahadur Shah Jafor er SheshDingulo’, ‘Upomohadesher Ain o Shashonerltihas’, ‘Hajar Bochorer Bangla’, and ‘Kirat: PrachinBanglarSomriddo ek J onopod’.
Mr. Justice Mamun was born on 25th June, 1957 in Chattogram,in a respected Muslim family in an area named Bular Taluk, named after his forefather Syed Bula, in South Gachbaria under Chandanaish Police Station (ex-Potiya), in Chattogram District.He completed his legal studies from University of Dhaka in 1979 & 1980. He passed HSC examination from Chattogram Government Collage in 1975 with position in the Merit List and completed SSC from the then Comilla Board with distinction.He is a member of Rotary International, B avid humanitarian activist.
